About the author: Lucy Perry

Lucy Perry is an experienced doula or birth partner and childbirth educator. She is the founder of Australia’s largest online doula directory and is the author of a number of published articles on the subject of childbirth support. Lucy is the founder of Beer + Bubs childbirth educaton for men which is run in pubs all over Australia: from Melbourne to the minefields. Cheers to Childbirth is her first book.

Lucy trained as a doula or birth attendant with Birth Consultant Denise Love in 2004 and has been attending births eversince.

Lucy is also a commercial photographer, copy writer, stylist, designer and publisher of trade magazines and non-fiction books.

Lucy was a finalist in the 2001 and 2002 Young Businesswoman of the Year Awards and runs a design, photography and publishing business with her husband Bruce. Together they have three young children and live in Sydney, Australia.

Lucy supports the work of Dr Catherine Hamlin AC and the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital (a hospital in Ethiopia that treats poor rural women who have suffered childbirth injuries) and travels to Ethiopia each year to shoot the organisation’s fundraising calendar. This is an ongoing probono association that has shown her what a lucky country we live in.

After the birth of her first child, Lucy saw the need to help expectant dads understand their role and be more useful at the births of their babies so founded Beer + Bubs, childbirth education for men at the pub. These unique sessions, just for the lads, are now run nationally with blokes heading to the pub in the name of childbirth all over Australia.

Lucy is an engaging and entertaining speaker presenting to a wide range of interest groups including
• childbirth and early parenting sessions tailored just for men at lifestyle retreats and in the workplace (in addition to Sydney's Beer + Bubs sessions at the pub)
• business and lifestyle presentations on the parenthood-entrepreneaurial juggle
• health professionals such as midwives, lactation consultants and early childhood professionals on how to engage men in birth and breastfeeding
• Key note presentations on the work of Dr Catherine Hamlin AO and the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia
